Philosophy

The way you play is based on how you train. Technique is key to every aspect of soccer and key to how you play. Being "technically sound," is being able to have a solid first touch on the move, at stance or with a defender on. This consists of the feet, thigh, chest and head. It means being able to have a quality pass to your teammate on the ground, in the air or placing a ball past a defender in tight spaces. It's that ability to place the ball into the side netting when shooting. Being technical is your overall ability and what every coach looks at. This is the main focus in every training session to make sure you have all the qualities to be technically sound.

Soccer takes a beating on your mind. One bad pass, one bad shot, or even a turnover early in the game will haunt you for the remainder with no breaks to shake it off. You have to have a strong mind and shake it off to move onto the next possession. There's no "I can't," or "It's hard." We push you at Riehl Training because we want you to move on to the next play. You will have many mistakes and misses in training, you have to put it aside and get the next one. We teach you how to mentally prepare yourself for mistakes by getting into the next ball played in to forget your mistake and correct it.

Vision and positioning is vital in the game of soccer. Are you able to find that open pass to your teammate before you get the ball, do you see your teammate making the run down the line, are you in the right position to receive the ball, open your body and have a shot or dribble? Transitioning technical ability into tactical ability will take your game above and beyond. Drills consist of being able to position yourself to find that pass or gap. Being able to look over your shoulder before receiving a pass to find the next. Awareness is key to being better than the commotion you face and you will gain all of that knowledge through us.

Get knocked down; get back up. Physical toughness is being able to win a tackle out of the air or on the ground cleanly. Holding your defender off to get around them or back them down. Using your body to push off and receive a ball. Dirty soccer is not my style. Clean, crisp tackles and using your body is. Through drills we teach the fundamentals on when and how to win a tackle, how to feel pressure and use your body to hold a player off. No retaliation when a defender is tough on you. Use your technical skills to embarrass as your physical and mental toughness.
